How To Be Relaxed On A First Date

Relaxed First Date Couple

Most people have had bad experiences with first dates, maybe because they were too nervous and anxious. The fact that you don’t know who you are meeting or what to expect makes the whole experience nerve-wrecking. Well, if you are about to go on a first date, here are some helpful tips for that first date, to help you be more relaxed.

Organise Your Thoughts

If you want to be less anxious you need to organise your thoughts and write them down if need be. For instance, what are you expecting from the person you are going to meet? Basically, this will be a pros and cons list. If you are looking for a relationship, you need to make sure that the first date goes off without a hitch. Your date should also meet some of the requirements that you are looking for in a partner.

Positive Self-Talk

Basically, this involves running a dialogue in your head before meeting the person. For instance, what do you say when he/she says something out of the ordinary? Will you be caught off guard or will you reply with a clever remark? Of course, there is a chance that everything will go differently than what you expect. It doesn’t hurt to run a monologue in your head to be prepared for what to say when you are actually on the date. Drawing up a list of topics to talk about is also a really good idea.

Focus On The Activity Not The Person

It’s normal for you to expect the person you are meeting to be perfect and for the date to develop into a long-term relationship. However, there is always the chance that the date might go the other way. You should be prepared for the date to go completely wrong and that you and your date will not make a good fit romantically. That’s okay. We can’t all be compatible with everyone!

One way you can avoid focusing too much on what the individual is like is by focusing on the activity you are both doing together. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you should completely ignore your date. For instance, if you are going for a game or movie on your first date, explain to your date the important parts and engage in a conversation about the activity itself.
